Frequently Asked Questions
What clothing is most appropriate to practice yoga?
Wear clothing you are comfortable moving in. Pants with tight fitting waist bands(jeans, slacks) are often uncomfortable to do yoga in. We suggest wearing pants or shorts with a comfortable waistline that stretch and move with your body. Large baggy t-shirts can hang away from the body is poses like downward dog. A shirt that is slightly fitted or one that you can tuck in is often most comfortable.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
If you have your own mat, we encourage you to bring it with you. However, we do have mats available at the studio if you need to borrow one. There is no cost to use one of our mats.
My new mat is really slippery. Is there something wrong with it? What can I do about it?
New mats are often slippery. There is nothing wrong with your mat. With regular use and wiping down, your mat will become less slippery in time. We suggest wiping your mat down with biodegradable wipe or you might create your own mat spray combining vinegar, water, and a few drops of tea tree oil or Young Living Oil's Thieves to aid with disinfecting. If you find that your mat doesn't seem to be getting less slippery, a mat-length yoga towel or a yoga rug may be helpful to place atop your mat when you practice. Also try not to apply lotion to hands or feet prior to practicing.

How often should I practice?
Like many questions in yoga, the answer is . . . it depends. It depends on your body, your level of practice, your energy level, and your schedule. Consistent daily practice can have tremendous benefit but more is not always better. Many students report feeling the effects of their practice after doing just 1 class or private session. Beginners usually can benefit greatly from attending a group class once a week. As you practice, you will start to get to know your body and become more in tune with its needs. You might discover that once a week is perfect for you. Or you might find that two group classes a week in addition to two shorter practices at home feels best.

What does RYT mean?
RYT is the acronym for Registered Yoga Teacher. This simply means that an individual has gone through an approved yoga teacher training program and has completed a certain number of hours of training. Most yoga teachers have a 200RYT, meaning they have 200 hours of training with an approved yoga teacher training school. Some teachers continue their studies and become RYT500 meaning that they have an additional 300 hours of teacher training through an approved school. If the instructor happens to have an "E" after their name, it means that they can be considered and "experienced" RYT. An instructor who is E-RYT200 has gone through 200 hours of training and has taught a minimum of 1,000 hours of yoga instruction. An E-RYT200/500RYT is an instructor who has 1,000+ hours of teaching at the 200 hour level and has also completed a 500RYT training. An instructor who is E-RYT500 has completed the 500 hour program and has taught 2,000+ hours of yoga instruction.
